What's New

Welcome to the IPMS Farnborough Model Club

We specialise in static scale models made from plastic construction kits, but welcome and encourage all forms of modelling

In this site we describe our hobby, our club and its meetings, and the various shows and events around the country where we exhibit our models

We also have information on our annual show, Modelfest, and some real-world reference material

A brief update tonight.  There are new dates in the diary and competition results for October (sorry no pictures).

Twinning with ACTMS Canberra

“Following on with our twinning with IPMS Ottawa in Canada www.ipmsottawa.com, IPMS Farnborough have now twinned with ACT Scale Modellers' Society in Australia www.actsms.asn.au

IPMS Farnborough Branch Secretary Pete Readman says "Besides the personal contacts between the members of the clubs twinning provides inspiration for modelling subjects and competitions, and is a useful for the interchange of techniques, reference materials and hard-to-find modellings items and materials. We look forward to cultivating our friendship with the members of ACTMS."

19th October 2011

Thanks to everyone for the splendid help with Modelfest this year.  There was a really good turnout to help with setting up and taking down, which makes it so much easier, and we were done in record time.

Numbers through the door were noticeably up on 2010, and first cut of the figures says we're up financially on last year as well, despite one major trader pulling out at the last minute, and despite the economic climate.

We’ve had a number of nice emails from clubs and traders alike, thanking us for a great show, and some wanting to book for next year already.

Finally, there are also some good photos on Britmodeller at http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=78305&st=0

The diary is now up to date as are the competition results and gallery, featuring models show at our September club night

1st September 2011

August club nights in the past have been quiet affairs with may people away on holiday.  Not this August; the competition tables were as busy as ever.   Go to the competition results and model gallery to see the class winners and many other on the models on display.

31st July 2011

Another bumper Club Night in July. The monthly competition featured the largest entry in the most classes yet seen, with the tables overflowing with the most wonderful range of models. Some of the more memorable and unusual subjects included a 1932 Roma racing bike, a saxophone, a German radar installation and a what-if sci-fi model made from tank parts!

Go to the competition results and model gallery to see the class winners and many other on the models on display.

Regarding the competition, the club members agreed to the setting up of a new diorama class separate from the military vehicles class.

19th June 2011

The highlight of our June Club Night was the presentation of a cheque for £1500 to the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice.  Phyllis Tuckwell, based in Farnham, cares for seriously ill people and their families both at the Hospice and out in the local community.

The picture, left, shows Fiona Coleman of the Hospice receiving the cheque from Chris McKee and Pete Readman.

IPMS Farnborough are proud to be associated with the Hospice and each year we donate the profits from our ModelFest show to the charity.

The diary has been updated with new dates for shows in 2012

The competition results page now includes links to photo galleries of the models on display on the competition tables. To display the gallery for given month click on the appropriate link in the left hand column of the results table.

Here are the competition winners for June together with some of the other superb models built our club members.

31st May 2011

Our May Club Night was one of the busiest yet. I would like this opportunity to welcome the new members who have joined our club in recent months.

There was a fine turn out on the competition tables. The competition results and gallery have been updated to feature some of the 40+ models on display.

Scale ModelWorld 2011 will be held on the weekend of 12th /13th November. IPMS(UK) have a new website dedicated to the show which can be found at www.smwshow.com This is a one-stop information point for everything to do with the show.

3rd April 2011

First I would like to apologize for the delay in updating the website. As you may have noticed I have been rebuilding the picture libraries which has proven to be a time consuming and troublesome job.

The diary is now up to date as are the competition results and gallery, featuring models show at our March club night

7th March 2011

Modelfest 2011 invitations have gone out. If you are a trader or club who was expecting an invite and haven’t received it, then contact Pete Readman. Diary and competition results have been updated.

23rd January 2011

January club night is always one of the highlights of the IPMS Farnborough year featuring the ‘Model of the Year’ contest. This year 30+ models were entered, representing the very best work of the club members across all scales and classes. As ever, the competition was close and keenly contested. After much debate members voted Brian Boot’s FIAT. Mephistofeles 1923 model of the year for 2010 - congratulations Brian!

In addition to ‘Model of the Year’, we held our regular competitions and the biannual ‘Members’ Trophy’ also won by Brian Boot. As winner Brian gets to choose the theme for the next contest, to be held in September, which will be: ‘I spy with my little eye something beginning with G’.

Speaking of competitions, the club has agreed a change to the monthly competition rules. From February onwards if there is only one model entered in a class (such as the stunning truck and ship on the tables this month), that model will be declared the winner and so be eligible for entry into the ‘Model of the Year’.

Updated Diary and Competition Results. Photos of new models by Alan Purusram, Brian Boot, Jim Potts, Lewis Ragsdale-Lowe, Martin Humphrey, Mark Jowett, Mick Breckon and Ray Putman.
